Microwave verruca therapy for Crewe

An exciting new technology called microwave verruca therapy is now available for people in Crewe. The ground-breaking treatment for removing verrucae on feet and hands has been developed in the UK by Swift.

AJB Footcare Podiatrist Andrew Booth

The microwave verruca treatment has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to treat stubborn cases of infection by the verruca virus. However, it is works quickly, and does not need the application of any acids, bandages, or anaesthetics, which are commonly associated with conventional verruca treatments.

AJB Footcare is one of the first clinics in the UK to offer Swift microwave verruca therapy. The clinic, in Market Drayton, Shropshire, is also one of the nearest centres to Crewe, in Cheshire, which has the equipment on site full-time to offer treatment to patients with verrucae.

AJB Footcare’s senior Podiatrist, Andrew Booth, says: “Microwave therapy is a very impressive new generation treatment for verrucae. We’re excited to be able to offer it to our patients. We’re already getting excellent results.

“As our clinic is just 17 miles from Crewe, we’re ready to help people from the town who have verruca, and want a new, clean, and largely pain-free way to get rid of them.”

Microwave verruca treatment explained

The human body has a natural immune response to the verruca virus. For most people, this kicks in as soon as the virus attempts to enter their bodies, preventing it from taking hold.

However, this immune system is not as effective for some people. It is these people who are more likely to get verrucae which can become large, grow in clusters and become highly persistent.

Swift microwave verruca therapy has been designed to work by helping to sensitise your body’s natural immune response to the verruca virus, in effect, energising it, so it can more effectively counter it.

Precision verruca treatment

Swift microwave verruca therapy is highly targeted. During treatment, microwave energy is delivered through a hand-held probe, to a precise depth of no more than 5mm, leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.

Clears verrucae on feet and hands

Swift microwave verruca therapy has been proven by treatment on hundreds of patients to be effective on both hands and feet.

It can also be used to treat clusters or verruca, with excellent results. Also, the therapy can be applied to multiple locations on the body during the same treatment session.

Microwave verruca therapy – much less pain

The treatment is attracting very high satisfaction rates from patients because it does not have many of the disadvantages of conventional verruca treatment.

With microwave verruca treatment, there is:

  • No need for acid treatment
  • No need for freezing of the verrucae
  • No need to apply anaesthetics
  • No need for bandages or dressings

Conventional verrucae treatments can cause quite significant pain during and after treatment. Indeed, some people with verrucae resist getting help in removing them because they dislike the pain so much.

Treatment with Swift microwave therapy is different.

There can sometimes be a sharp scratch-like pain during an application – which lasts just two seconds. However, this irritation does not continue once the applicator is removed from the surface of the verruca.

Extensive treatment already undertaken, and rigorous clinical trials, indicate that patients do not experience post-treatment pain.

Best verruca treatment for Crewe patients?

years. In our professional judgement, Swift microwave therapy is the most effective verruca treatment we have ever been able to offer.

We believe it is the best verruca treatment currently available.

As such, we have no hesitation in recommending that Swift microwave verruca treatment should be considered by people in Crewe with the condition.

Clinical trials success

Independent clinical trials conducted by Dr Ivan Bristow, of the University of Southampton, has demonstrated success rates for Swift microwave verruca therapy of 76%.

The university has carried out further research to understand how the treatment works. Its scientists have demonstrated that the microwaves appear to induce an immune response to verrucae, making the body’s natural defences more effective when attacking it.

Convenient and easy to apply

On average, most patients need to attend our clinic just two or three times for microwave verruca treatment to be fully-effective. However, we should point out that long-standing, and especially large verrucae, may need more treatments.

Key aspects of the treatment make microwave verruca therapy more effective, more gentle, and more convenient for our patients.

Fast and highly-controlled

Each treatment consists of five two-second applications of microwaves for each verruca. The microwave therapy is delivered in a highly-controlled and entirely safe way. The treatment takes only a few minutes, so patients can quickly get back to their daily lives.

No post-treatment dressings needed

A major advantage of Swift microwave verruca treatment is that no dressings are needed afterwards. This is because the microwaves do not break the surface of the skin.

Unlike conventional verruca treatment, there is no additional risk of clinical complications, for example skin infections. After the first treatment, the second microwave therapy session usually takes place after two to three weeks.

Resuming physical activity

Patients who have had microwave treatment can return to normal daily activity as soon as they leave our clinic.

That includes taking part in a full range of sports. If the verrucae have been restricting physical activity, Swift therapy is likely to allow the patient to become active again the quickest.

One reason is that it does not cause post-treatment discomfort or pain. Another, is that, as soon as the verruca is small enough not to hamper movement, you can resume whatever activity you wish.

How quickly does the verruca go?

After the first microwave therapy session, it may take a few days for you to notice a difference. After a while, the verruca may become discoloured, though this should cause no pain.

Over the next few weeks, it should gradually shrink in size, as the body’s immune response takes effect. Normal skin grows into the previously-infected area. Eight weeks after your last treatment, we carry out a formal review to assess progress made.

Microwave verruca treatment – Case Study

A 73-year-old man who suffered with a verruca and warts on his hand for at least 11 years has had his life transformed by Swift microwave therapy delivered by AJB Footcare.

In 2015, we treated his verruca with four courses of cryotherapy, with no discernible improvement. The verruca grew further during 2016, during which time the patient received routine treatment to reduce the pain he was suffering.

In July 2017, the patient had his first Swift microwave verruca treatment on the verruca and the warts, followed by two further treatments over eight weeks. Since then, it has taken just over four months to move from picture 1 to the progress in picture 2, see right, for both the verruca and the warts on the patient’s finger.

For the first time in many years, the patient does not feel pain. He is no longer ashamed to show his feet, and his relatives are no longer worried about the impact of the verruca on his wellbeing.

AJB Footware Podiatrist Andrew Booth said: “These are fantastic results. They demonstrate perfectly the potential positive benefits of microwave verruca therapy compared with conventional treatments.”

Microwave therapy – 100% safe

Microwave therapies have been developed and used for clinical treatment for many years.

Swift microwave therapy draws on the scientific and medical knowledge established by this process. This ensures that Swift microwave verruca treatment is completely safe. It has been proven by extensive and rigorous clinical trials, and has been approved for use under the Medical Devices Directive (MDD).

Evidence indicates there is less risk of healthy tissue being damaged by this new treatment than by others verruca therapies, including cryotherapy, salicylic acid and laser treatment.
